ERIC ROSEN (Director) is Artistic Director of Kansas City Repertory Theatre, was the founding Artistic Director of Chicago’s About Face Theatre (AFT) (1995-2008), and is a writer, director and producer. Original projects include Venice (KC Rep, Center Theatre Group-LA, upcoming NYC, “Best Musical of 2010”–TIME Magazine); Wedding Play (Steppenwolf /AFT, Jefferson nomination) Winesburg, Ohio (Steppenwolf, AFT-Jeff Award; Arden Theatre Company-Philadelphia, Barrymore Award; KC Rep), Clay (AFT, Lookingglass Theatre Company-Chicago, Center Theatre Group, KC Rep, Lincoln Center Theater, LCT3-Drama Desk Nomination, Jeff Award); and Undone, Whitman and Dream Boy (Jeff Award, several productions across the country). STEPHEN SCHWARTZ (Composer/Lyricist) has contributed music and/or lyrics to Godspell, Pippin, The Magic Show, The Baker’s Wife, Working (which he also adapted and directed), Rags, Children of Eden, My Fairytale, and the current Broadway hit, Wicked. He collaborated with Leonard Bernstein on the English texts for Bernstein’s MASS and wrote the title song for the play and movie Butterflies are Free. For children, he has written songs for two musicals, Captain Louie and My Son Pinocchio. For films, he collaborated with Alan Menken on the songs for Disney’s Enchanted as well as the animated features Pocahontas and The Hunchback of Notre Dame and wrote the songs for the DreamWorks animated feature The Prince of Egypt. He has released two CDs of new songs entitled Reluctant Pilgrim and Uncharted Territory. His first opera, Séance on a Wet Afternoon, premiered with Opera Santa Barbara in the fall of 2009 and was recently produced by New York City Opera. A book about his career, “Defying Gravity,” has recently been released by Applause Books. Under the auspices of the ASCAP Foundation, he runs musical theatre workshops in New York and Los Angeles, and is currently the President of the Dramatists’ Guild. Mr. Schwartz has recently been given a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and has been inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame. HIRSON (Book) is an American dramatist and screenwriter best known for his books of the Broadway musicals Pippin, for which he was nominated for a Tony Awardfor Best Book in 1973, and Walking Happy, which received a Tony Award for Best Musical in 1967. He has contributed extensively for original television anthology series episodes since the 1950s. |
CURTIS MOORE (Music Director/Orchestrator/Arranger) At KC Rep, he was a co-writer on Venice, directed by Eric Rosen, which TIME magazine called the Year’s Best Musical, and the music director of Into the Woods, directed by Moisés Kaufman. He most recently returned from conducting and performing alongside Kevin Spacey in the internationally acclaimed tour of Sam Mendes’ production of Richard III. With longtime lyricist Thomas Mizer, he was awarded a Jonathan Larson Grant in 2009; together they wrote the musicals Triangle (commissioned by the Williamstown Theatre Festival, subsequently presented at the Eugene O’Neill Center, and Theatreworks Palo Alto), The Legend Of Stagecoach Mary (National Alliance for Musical Theater), and The Bus To Buenos Aires (Ensemble Studio Theater, New York). He collaborated with Thomas Mizer, Amanda Green (Bring It On), and Matthew Brookshire on the critically acclaimed musical, For The Love Of Tiffany. With Matthew Brookshire, he has written and performed songs in the Todd Solondz’ film Palindromes. He provided orchestrations for the London revival of Pippin, Striking 12, The Bubbly Black Girl Sheds Her Chameleon Skin and Saved at Playwrights Horizons in New York. At Lincoln Center, he worked with Mark Bennett as orchestrator on The Coast of Utopiaand with Mel Marvin as associate composer and orchestrator on Cymbeline.
